Lymes’ Senior Center Board of Directors Meeting

October 15, 2018


PRESENT:  Jeri Baker, Gary Weed, Doris Hungerford, Don Abraham, Sue Campbell, Kathy Lockwood,  Doris Johnson,  Johnny Cody, Joni Bonvicin

ABSENT:  Diana Seckla, Dot McAndrew, Stephanie Lyon-Gould

GUESTS:  Bonnie Reimsnyder, Janet (Jeff) Sturgis

CALL TO ORDER:  Jeri Baker at 1:00

SECRETARY’S MINUTES:   A motion to accept September 2018 minutes with corrections  was called for by Gary Weed.  Johnny Cody seconded.  Unanimous approval.

TREASURER’S REPORT:  Doris Hungerford -  A new and corrected Treasurer’s Report for  September 2018 was accepted as submitted.

COMMUNICATIONS:  Jeri Baker -  Doris Johnson will be sending The Ladies Benevolent Society a thank you note for their $500 contribution to the Center.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:  

        Director’s Notes:  Stephanie Lyon-Gould - (Read by Jeri Baker) Summer concert bands confirmed thus far: July 11, The Corvettes Doo Wop, July 18, The Cartells, July 25, Rock Solid Alibi.  The Coast Guard band is scheduled for August 1st, but not confirmed.
The Center received 2049 visits during the month of September.   
Publicity for Center - Recent article in Neighbors Magazine, information has been submitted to the Lyme Town Report.  Lymes’ Senior Center events were the topic of an airing on local stations of the Pete Mezzetti Show (taped Sept 24).  
A new program will be starting October 25 - Cribbage Play and Learn.
The World War I Lyme Veterans Exhibit will be hung on October 24 for viewing through the month of November.

Building Use:  Gary Weed -  The timers for the outside lights are being adjusted for shorter daylight.  The fire extinguishers are ok.  Additional exterior lighting is in the budget.  Jeri Baker - The snow plowing will be going out to bid.

       Special Events: Stephanie Lyon Gould - (Read by Jeri Baker)   The Veterans Luncheon, October 30th, 1:00; Halloween Party,  October 31 at 1:00; Thanksgiving Luncheon with Elvis, November 15 at 12:00;  Old Lyme Town Band Holiday Concert, December 2 at 2:00; Holiday Luncheon with Old Lyme High School Select Singers, December 20 at 12:00; Free Pizza Party and showing of Holiday Inn,  December 24 at 12:00.  

OLD BUSINESS:
        Porch Renovation Update:  Jeri Baker -  Suspended the regular schedule of the meeting to allow guests Bonnie Reimsnyder and Janet Sturgis to contribute new information regarding the porch renovation.  Retrofitting  the porch would not be structurally or cost effectively feasible to fulfill the needs of the Center for additional space.  It was suggested that a structural engineer be consulted and probable cost be determined for an addition.   Sources of funding and grants should be pursued as well as submitting cost information for the November town budget meeting.

        Nonagenarian Photo Wall Update: Sue Campbell,  Judy Dutton, Joni Bonvicin - A leather photo album (which holds 100 photos) has been purchased to house the photos of nonagenarians who have passed.  

Other Old Business:  Jeri Baker - A new Policy Committee has been formed  to consist of Jeri Baker, Sue Campbell, Stephanie Lyon-Gould, Joni Bonvicin.

NEW BUSINESS:  

        Vendor Donations:  Jeri Baker - The new Policy Committee will develop guidelines.

        Memorial Garden Submissions:   Jeri Baker,  Sue Campbell  -  Jeri Baker contacted Diane Blackwell with regards to existing written policy.  As non currently exists,  the new committee can build policy based on precedent.  Sue Campbell will prepare a list of people who were members before the building was built.  Gary Weed put forth a motion to set an affordable price of $25.00 per memorial brick.  Doris Johnson seconded.  Unanimous approval.   

        Rental of Center:  Jeri Baker - The new Policy Committee will develop guidelines.

        Other New Business:  Sue Campbell - Raised the question of the Estuary continuing to deliver meals if there are less than 20 participants.  Jeri Baker will speak with Bonnie Reimsnyder regarding the issue as it is a town contract.
ADJOURN:  Meeting adjourned at 2:05.  Gary Weed moved to adjourn.  Sue Campbell seconded.
